The Weeknd + Giorgio Moroder “Big Sleep”

The collaboration between The Weeknd and Giorgio Moroder on the track “Big Sleep” from the album Hurry Up Tomorrow was a result of mutual admiration and shared musical vision. The Weeknd has long been influenced by Moroder’s pioneering electronic sound, which has been evident throughout his career. In a January 2025 interview with Variety, The Weeknd stated, “Giorgio is a huge inspiration for this album. His DNA has always been in all of my music, but I’m really honing in on it here, especially the operatic synths in Scarface. This album feels almost like an opera to me. This gothic, operatic finale to the trilogy.”

This deep respect for Moroder’s work led to a direct collaboration, with Moroder co-producing the album and co-writing “Big Sleep” and “Without a Warning.” Their partnership aimed to blend Moroder’s classic electronic style with The Weeknd’s contemporary R&B sound, resulting in a unique and compelling musical fusion.

The collaboration was first hinted at when The Weeknd shared a photo of himself in the studio with Moroder, generating excitement among fans for the upcoming project.

Their combined efforts on Hurry Up Tomorrow have been praised for seamlessly integrating Moroder’s iconic electronic production with The Weeknd’s modern musical sensibilities, creating a cinematic and dynamic listening experience.
